Obituary for Richard C. Silva

Manchester by the Sea - Richard Silva passed away peacefully on January 31, 2019, joining his beloved wife Anita. He is survived by his son, Richard Silva; daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Robert Nesom; sister, Marie Stover; grandchildren Richard and wife Sarah, James and Robert Silva, Chanelle Nastasia, Nicholas Nastasia and wife Courtney; sisters-in-law, Mildred Lalley and Marjorie Friend; nine nieces and nephews and his dedicated caregiver Maria Amaral.
Richard Carr Silva was born on April 30, 1932 in Beverly, MA. He was the son of James and Josephine (Jusczak) Silva. He was a native of Manchester and attended Manchester Schools followed by Beverly trade School where his natural skills for woodworking flourished. He was the recipient of a large monetary award for a wooden car competition which he added to his savings from his golf caddying, snow shoveling, yard maintenance, errands and fishing.
In 1953, he used his $3,000 to start a business with his prior co-worker at General Electric. They founded Beverly Pattern that grew into the largest pattern, mold and die company in the region.
Richard was a versatile athlete who tried out for The Red Sox after being observed by Ted Williams while playing at a Manchester baseball game. He was an accomplished golfer and won many tournaments at The Salem Country Club. After losing sight in his left eye from a horrific accident, he shot 9 holes-in-one. He relished his memories of playing with a few Red Sox players throughout his years on the greens. He was the captain of his bowling team, seasoned poker player and expert fisherman. His second boat was an old dilapidated wooden Chris Craft that he restored into a gleaming vessel named Kathrick. More boats followed which instilled the love of the ocean, fishing and pulling lobster traps with his children and grandchildren.
Family and friends were the nucleus of his life! Dick and Anita provided their family and friends with sensational holidays, pool parties and gatherings. Their beautiful home and yard reflected Dick’s meticulous carpentry, and his home brewed beer and root beer became another forte.
Dick and Anita cherished their children, grandchildren, family, friends, traveling, Greek dances, community events and their beloved Manchester.
Dick was in The Navy Reserves and served active duty in addition to being a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and The Manchester Club.
He was a true renaissance man!
Richard’s ability to maintain positivity, perseverance and humor helped him rise above many years of major medical challenges.
A loving, resilient, kind, generous, patient and humble husband, father, papa and friend. We will embrace his luminous spirit and profound love for eternity.
