Obituary for Richard A. Badger

Richard Alan Badger passed away on Sunday July 22, 2018 seven months after losing the love of his life and wife of 67 years Marion Teresa Badger. Richard was born on April 25, 1930 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the son of William Lawrence Badger and Lillian (Tinkham) Badger and brother of Natalie Bacheller. He graduated from Lynn English High School in 1948. Richard was the youngest Eagle Scout, at the time, in Massachusetts. He lived by the Scout Law being Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. He never forgot to do a good turn daily. Richard graduated from Northeastern University, his father’s alma mater, in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He completed the prestigious General Electric CMET program. Richard married Marion and they were blessed with five children, Suzanne, Mark, Stephen, Joanne and Holly. They had 14 grandchildren Tristan, Christine, Meredith, Myles, Alicia, William, Olivia, Matthew, Thomas, Gabriela, Kayla, Dominic, Maggie, Patrick in addition to three great grandchildren Ella, Nyla, Emersyn. Following the footsteps of his father, Richard worked for General Electric for 43 years. He worked in Lynn and Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Schenectady New York, Coshocton Ohio, Mt. Vernon, Indiana and finally Bergen Op Zoom in the Netherlands, where he and Marion spent 4 years living in Belgium and traveling thru much of Europe. In 1993, Richard and Marion retired to Beverly, Massachusetts, near his late son Mark in Newburyport and his sister Natalie, where they enjoyed 25 years in retirement. Richard loved camping, hiking, gardening, golfing, traveling, history, and the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. One of Richard’s favorite places was the White Mountains in New Hampshire. He would vacation with his sister Natalie and family every year regardless of where in the world they were living to reconnect and bond with his “Sis” and to seek refuge in the beauty of White Lake State Park. Richard’s lasting legacy is his love and devotion to Marion and his family. His Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Cove, 167 Hale Street, Beverly on Monday July 30 at 2pm and the burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn. Visiting hours will be Sunday July 29 from 1-4 pm at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
