Obituary for Paul D. O'Brien

Beverly - Paul D. O’Brien, 86, husband of sixty wonderful years to his wife, Alice Hynes O’Brien, died peacefully, Friday, July 27, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in the Allston section of Boston, he was the son of the late Arthur and Rose (Trainor) O’Brien.
Paul received his academic degrees from Boston University and Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
After graduated from law school, he was drafted into the United States Army where he studied cryptology.
Paul became a special agent for the FBI in 1960 and served in Washington D.C., Pittsburg, PA and New York City. In 1964 he left the Bureau to work in security management for the General Electric Company for fifteen years. He then joined Computervision Corporation in Burlington and Corporate Director of Security. In 1988 he became Vice President at the Boston Private Bank in Boston. Throughout his business career he was an adjunct instructor at Northeastern University, Salem State College and North Shore Community College. He often provided pro bono services to seniors.
Following his retirement, he was appointed Veterans Service Officer at Manchester by the Sea for thirteen years. He assisted veterans and their spouses in obtaining benefits and awards from the VA and Mass. Department of Veteran Services. He loved and enjoyed helping the veterans and listening to their courageous war stories. Paul often said “I have had a good life.”
Paul was a devoted, lifelong fan of the New England Patriots. He loved to read, most often with a beloved pet at his side, and traveled all over the world with his wife Alice and their dear friends, Brian and Mary Hennigan. He loved to garden and discuss politics with friends over a glass of wine. He was a warm, sincere and kind host, making all guests to his home feel comfortable and welcome.
He leaves behind a son, Kevin O’Brien and his wife, Sara of Beverly Farms, a daughter, Kathy Cronin and her husband, Barry of Darien, CT, a son, Dennis O’Brien and his wife, Kate of Truro, MA, three cherished grandchildren, Owen O’Brien of Beverly Farms, Emily Cronin of Washington D.C. and Darien, CT, and Katie Cronin of Darien, CT.
At the request of the family, his services will be held privately. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
