Obituary for Merle E. "Kip" Welsh, Jr.

BEVERLY- Merle E. "Kip" Welsh, Jr. age 90, of Beverly, formerly of Wenham, died Friday morning February 9, 2018 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. Husband of the late Helene (O'Day) Welsh. Born in Warren, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Merle E. and Clara (Sartori) Welsh, Sr.

He was an honorably discharged veteran during World War II. During his service in the United States Army, he was one of the Monuments Men. He earned his undergraduate degree at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, his Master's Degree at Penn State University, and his Doctorate of Education at Syracuse University. He worked for the Williamsville Central School District in Williamsville, New York for 27 years as Director of Curriculum and then Assistant Superintendent.

He retired in 1992 and moved to Wenham in 1993 to be near his beloved grandchildren. He was a volunteer for the Wenham Council on Aging and the Hamilton-Wenham Library, in honor of his wife, who was a librarian. Surviving him is his daughter, Susan Johnson and her husband Douglas of Haverhill; his son, Christopher Welsh and his wife Marla of Cartersville, GA; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Laura Johnson, Emma Welsh and Andrea Welsh. He was predeceased by a brother William Welsh and his sisters, Joanne and Joyce Welsh.

His level head, patience, wisdom and great love of his family were his gifts to us and we will all miss him terribly. Rest easy Dad. We love you.

His funeral services will be held privately. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St, Beverly, MA 01915.
