Obituary for Louis J. Woods

BEVERLY - Louis J. Woods, III, 88, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Essex Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Joanne M. (Smith) Woods who died in 2016.
Born in Peabody on January 7, 1929, he was the son of the late Louis J. and Alice D. (Fitzgerald) Woods. He had resided in Salem for several years before moving to Beverly over 70 years ago. A U.S. Army veteran of World War Two, he was honorably discharged on March 25, 1948.
Louis was a successful businessman, along with his wife, they started many business ventures on the North Shore, including extensive real estate and Woods Coffee Service and Vending. He had also once worked as a machinist at the United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly for several years. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, spending time in North Conway and caring for the family dog, “Charlie.” An avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose quick wit and sarcasm will be missed by all who knew him. He was also a former member of the Beverly-Salem Elks Club and the Moose Club in North Conway.
He is survived by six daughters, Nancy Craig and her husband, Richard of Salem, Sharon Christy and her husband, George of Beverly, Brenda Modugno of Salem, Denise Familiari of Beverly, Susan McGinnity and her husband, James of Beverly and Luanne O’Brien and her husband Paul of Beverly; twelve grandchildren, Robert Christy and his wife, Catherine, Jennifer Clark, Michael O’Brien, Nicole LeBlanc, Kristen Valeri and her husband, Jared, Kevin McGinnity, Dana, Matthew and Jamey Correia and Anthony, John and Angela Modugno; eight great-grandchildren, Brayden and Isabella Clark, Lauren and Lila Christy, Mariah and Julia Porter and Aaron and Ashton Valeri; two sisters-in-law, Grace Ahern and Priscilla Hidden and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Sally McGee and his son-in-law Anthony Familiari.
His funeral service will be held on Monday in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 - 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
