Obituary for John Battista Serra

BEVERLY formerly of Billerica - John B. Serra 88, beloved husband of Mary J. (Smyth) Serra, died Saturday morning at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. Born and raised in Beverly, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Grazia (Lazzaro) Serra. He graduated from Beverly High School.

An honorably discharged veteran, he was a member of the United States Airforce during the Korea War. He was also an active volunteer, past commander and life member of the Disabled American Veterans in Billerica Chapter #47.

An avid dancer, John and his wife Mary enjoyed dancing at weekly and monthly dances throughout the North Shore. Mr. Serra was a union carpenter for many years. He was past president of the Beverly senior citizens club.

He is survived by two sisters, Maria R. Bonaiuto of Beverly and Margherita Eggleston, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Bettina Sienkiewicz, Santina Serra and Caroline Serra.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly, Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
