Obituary for Helen L. Hunter

Shrewsbury - Helen L. (Crouse) Hunter, 82, beloved wife, mother, Nana, Great Nana and aunt, died Monday, January 1, 2018 peacefully with her family by her side. Born June 21, 1935, in Worcester, Helen, the only child of C. Solomon and Stella M. Crouse, was raised and educated in Shrewsbury.

She met the love of her life, Robert, became his wife in 1952 and raised their family in Westborough. They later lived in Naples, FL and Dover, NH. Helen was a stay-at-home-mother and had numerous hobbies and skills including knitting, sewing, quilting and making porcelain dolls. Helen loved to be surrounded by her family, preparing wonderful meals for her husband, children and friends, making memories that will live on forever. Helen was a member of the Congregational Church in Westborough and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. Helen and Bob built a few beautiful homes together in Westborough and Dover, NH and were the happiest when their home was filled with all the kids and grandkids. Helen enjoyed a part time job at Westborough Jewelers for many years before retiring to Florida and eventually moving back north.

She will be greatly missed by her four children, Deborah Bordeaux and her husband Lincoln of Millbury, Pamela Serra and her partner Captain Ken, Lisa DuBois and her husband Duane of Dover, NH and Robert Hunter IV and his wife Sally of Beverly, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Helen leaves her dearest childhood friend, Betty Watson. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Hunter. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years Robert in 2013, sisters-in law Christine and Leone, and brothers-in-law David and Eddie.

The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Jewish Hospice Center.

A celebration of life for close family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Helen’s name to the Activities Fund at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 40 Julio Drive, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
