George W. Darrah 67, former owner of Browns of Beverly Bicycles, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2018 surrounded by his family at the Kaplan House, after a lengthy illness. Born in Beverly, raised in Lynn and long-time resident of Beverly, he was the son of the late George A. Darrah Sr. and Eleanor (Fisher) Darrah.
George, along with his wife, Jane and brother Richard owned and operated Browns of Beverly Bicycles for many years. He loved his bike shop and was happiest there, selling, talking about and working on bikes. He was a wealth of knowledge of the bike industry dating back to the 1950’s. In addition, he loved watching and talking sports, statistics and players, particularly about the Red Sox.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane (Elderkin) Darrah, his son George E. Darrah of Beverly, and daughter Lauren W. Darrah of Beverly and her fiancé Craig G. Bartlett. He is also survived by his brother Richard B. Darrah and his wife Suzanne of Topsfield. In addition to his immediate family, George is survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, December 7th, from 4PM-7PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8th, at 10AM at Campbells Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
