Obituary for Donald Ryan

Beverly - Donald Ryan 84, beloved husband of Thelma (Matheson) Ryan, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by his family. Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late William A. and Ruth F. (Matheson) Ryan. He was raised and educated in Manchester by the Sea and continued his education at Fitchburg State College where he earned a Master’s Degree in Education. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a medic for the United States Navy. Mr. Ryan had been employed for eighteen years as a school teacher in the North Andover school system until the time of his retirement in 1981. A resident of Beverly for the past fifty five years, he was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Beverly where he had served as a lay reader. An active and outstanding Mason, Mr. Ryan was a member of the Liberty Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Beverly and the Blue Lodge in Manchester by the Sea. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Salem. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, with whom he shared fifty five years of marriage, he is survived by his daughter, Sandra Anastos and her husband, Mike of Waitsfield, VT, his son, Andrew Ryan and his wife, Linda of Newburyport and two granddaughters, Catherine and Abigail Ryan. He was also the brother of the late David Ryan. His funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4 Ocean Street, Beverly, Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Contributions may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
