Peabody - Claire Elizabeth (Bettie) Loughhead died peacefully on December 26, 2018 at her home in Brooksby Village, Peabody, Massachusetts. She was born on July 23, 1926 in Kansas City. Bettie was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Reverend Dr. LaRue (Larry) Loughhead. She is survived by her three children, David, Stephen, and Elizabeth (Beth); their spouses Sandra McNabb, Leslie Crossman, and Jim Gubbins; and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bettie and her husband led three churches during a life of devoted service; First Baptist Church of Hudson Falls, New York, Delmar Baptist in St. Louis, Missouri, and Calvary Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Bettie was the founder of Eldercare, a day program for seniors. Eldercare was one of Bettie’s many acts of putting her faith into practice through a life of service and work for the benefit of others. Along with her commitment to service and devotion to her family, Bettie loved to explore the world God created, traveling to all 50 states and 7 continents.

On Friday, January 4, 2019 at 5 p.m., there will be a Vesper Service of Remembrance at First Baptist Church, 221 Cabot Street, Beverly, Massachusetts. There will also be a Memorial Service held at Bettie’s home church, Calvary Baptist in Denver, at a later date. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
