Obituary for Charles E. Russell

DANVERS - Charles E. “Charlie” Russell, 74, died Sunday, April 29, 2018 in The Brentwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Danvers following an brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Virginia M. (Call) Russell. Born in Somerville on November 25, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Mabel I. (Torode) Russell. He was a graduate of Somerville High School and had resided in Beverly for many years before moving to Danvers in 1982. Charlie was employed as letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Lexington, Chelsea and Revere for thirty-two years before retiring in 2003. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he had also served in the Army National Guard for twenty years. He was a member of the Charles W. Davis V.F.W. Post #2359 of Danvers. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and bowling. In addition to his wife of thirty-six years, he is survived by his two step-sons, Stephen Mullarkey and his wife, Michelle of Salem, NH and Michael Mullarkey and his wife, Michelle of Essex; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, David Russell of Lynn; cousin, Camille Scott; two brothers-in-law, Clarence and Lawrence Call; a sister-in-law, Nancy Conrad and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Henry Russell and brother-in-law, Donald Call. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 9th in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
