Peabody - Carl V. Nickerson died on November 20, 2017 at the age of 98. Born in Nova Scotia, he lived for many years in Manchester-by-the-Sea before moving to Brooksby Village in Peabody.
Survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Truth Nickerson, his daughter Janice O’Donnell, his son Rev. Paul Nickerson and his wife Rev. Marlayna Schmidt, six grandchildren: Brian O’Donnell and his wife Kayley, Kyle Nickerson, Andy O’Donnell and his wife Julia, Blair Nickerson and his wife Leah, Michael O’Donnell and his wife Virginia Wang, Meghan Hulsey and her husband Dave, as well as great-grandchildren Lennox O’Donnell, Sam Hulsey, and Delaney Wang.
He was a Registered Architect, a graduate of the Boston Architectural College, and a partner in the firm Brown, Fisher, and Nickerson, State Street, Boston, specializing in the design of educational buildings. Later in life, he joined the firm Edwards, Sears, Reed to design housing.
He was active in community affairs in Manchester, serving on the Planning Board, the Housing Authority, and designing additions to Manchester High School, Memorial Elementary School, and Brookwood School.
An active member of the First Parish Church, Congregational for over 50 years, he served on many boards and committees, as well as serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Chapel Sexton. A great pleasure of his life was redesigning the interior of his church.
At Brooksby he also served on the Church Council, the Missions Committee, and the Interfaith Committee.
A memorial service will be held at the Brooksby Chapel at Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the Catering Room (next door to the Chapel) to which relative and friends are invited to attend. There will be a private graveside service for family at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Manchester. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Brooksby Benevolent Fund, the Brooksby Protestant Faith Community, or the First Parish Church, Congregational in Manchester. Online condolences at .
