Obituary for Anita Louise Silva

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA - Anita Silva passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on July 23, 2018. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty years, Richard; her son Richard Silva; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Nesom; grandchildren Richard, James, Robert, Chanelle, Nicholas and wife, Courtney Nastasia. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Lalley and sisters-in-law, Marie Stover and Marjorie Friend; nine nieces and nephews and her dedicated caregiver Maria Amaral. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Friend.

Anita Louise Friend was born on February 13, 1932 in Rutland, Vermont. She was the daughter of Henry and Lillian (Jennett) Friend. She spent her primary years in Northfield, Vermont and moved to Malden at the age of eight. After graduating from Malden High School, Anita attended the Wilfred Academy in Boston. She secured a position at the prestigious Pierre Marcel Salon on Newbury Street in Boston. She enjoyed a myriad of celebrities as her clients. Soon she was enjoying her Newbury Street apartment and tooling around in her new yellow convertible.

In 1957, Anita initially viewed her beloved Manchester-by-the-Sea when she arrived at Pierre Marcel’s summer salon at the train depot. She also worked at their Hyannis Salon and felt fortunate to have Jackie Kennedy among her clients. Soon she met her future husband at Singing Beach and he courted her on his boat, while viewing the picturesque coastline. Anita and Richard built their home and married in 1958. Their beautiful home and pool became a welcoming oasis for entertaining family and friends. Anita’s culinary, hosting, decorating and horticultural skills and passion made her the epitome of entertaining. Her altruistic nature guided her to many years of volunteering, fundraising and enduring friendships. She was an avid member of the Manchester Women’s Club, the Legion Auxiliary and headed many committees. Anita was a force of nature…emanating vitality, compassion, love, grace, faith and generosity, as a mother, nani, wife and friend. We will embrace her luminous spirit and profound love for eternity.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited for visitation and a service at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 2-4 PM.
