Obituary for Richard Sears Sr.
Ipswich Richard Sears Sr., 94, of Ipswich, husband of the late Christiane Marie (Linas) Sears, died Friday, September 10, 2010 in the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Ipswich, he was the son of the late Richard and Susan (Drake) Sears. He was raised in Boston, graduated from St. Pauls School in Concord, NH and earned his degree from Harvard University with honors. He continued his education and attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada, Columbia University in New York City and studied City Planning in London.
An honorably discharged and decorated veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy.
Mr. Sears had been employed as a diplomat for the United States Government. He was the first secretary to President Harry Truman at the Embassy in Paris. He was also part of the team of people involved in the Peace talks that ended World War II with President Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin. He lived in Paris, France and devoted himself to painting in his later years.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie V. Sears of Verona, Italy and his son, Richard Sears of St. Lambert, Quebec, Canada.
